- Startup tax credit – Small businesses with no more than 50 employees and at least 1 non-highly compensated employee who is eligible to participate can claim a tax credit up to 100% of the cost associated with the new retirement plan for up to three tax years. (Employers with 51-100 employees can claim a tax credit up to 50% of the cost associated with the new retirement plan for up to three tax years.) The credit can range from $500 to $5,000 depending upon the number of eligible Non Highly Compensated Employees.*
- Automatic enrollment tax credit – Employers that offer automatic enrollment may be eligible for an additional tax credit of $500 per year for the first three years (total of $1,500).*
